Most insurers will likely refund your unused policy cost; some may charge a fee if you choose to cancel in the middle of your insurance term. Before cancelling, you may like to find out in your policy handbook whether or not you will be charged a penalty for cancelling in the middle of your term.

Finally, make sure to ask for email evidence that your policy has been updated, sometimes verbal communication can get lost in translation!
